Albie turned three at the end of February. We just had a low-key family weekend this year – hung at the beach, attended a Soap Box Derby Day, met a giant teddy bear at the Teddy Bears Picnic, ate a racing car cake and flew in a rocket ship to space. All in all a great third birthday for a great and marvellous boy.
The rocket ship was at Albie’s request. He really, really wanted a rocket ship for his birthday, which I am sure you will agree, is quite the tall order. So this is what we did. Shonky as all heck, it was a bit of a late night adventure in cardboard, paint and superglue the night before, but he loved it all the same. Marcus tape-recorded a “rocket operating system” talking to him, and that really was the icing on the proverbial cake for the wee guy.
It almost went completely pear-shaped when he realised that it didn’t actually fly. Tears welled and Albie proclaimed broken heartedly, “But I wanted to fly to space!”
Thankfully he hopped on the phone and started chatting to his pals about his birthday morning and he was as proud as punch.
He makes me laugh every day.
