I’ve been wide awake at 2:30am many times. But these days - without a baby, or a party, there is neither excuse or reason for such frivolous expenditure of the hours between midnight and dawn. But last night I was awake, my mind forfeiting my mantra of “radical acceptance” as it went for a wander across the catastrophes and through the night. We head north today to Starship, New Zealand’s children’s hospital. . Albie has been suffering the effects of severe pulmonary stenosis, as his whole pulmonary artery needs replacing, and it’s time to sort it out. . The plan for next week is to insert a pulmonary stent in to widen it and see how the pressure changes. It’s not a permanent fix, but it will hopefully give Albie some more time before he heads back to open heart surgery. . My blood cooled in the dark last night, readying myself to re-enter a building that holds far too many memories. A place where no plan has yet ever gone to plan, and the edge has been far too close. . But this morning dawned, and the light returned. And with my bagged eyes and jangling nerves I sat and witnessed my two boys excited about plane rides, and Ronald McDonald House and food on trays. . And, Albie, legitimately excited about getting his energy back. . And then our neighbours and dear friends arrived, with a basket of heartfelt goodies delivered to hold us with a supreme amount of love. So with dawn, and with light, and with love, we step forward. And my mantra of radical acceptance is back in place. This is. Everything is unfolding. And beauty is found absolutely everywhere.
Harvest basket of cocazelle zucchini, deka cucumber, peas, basil, lettuce, curly kale and many edible flowers. Salads can never have too many.
